Why Choose Martial Arts?

We know your child is special. Each parent that walks through the doors of a martial arts studio is looking for something different for their child – something special. Unlike other sports you could choose for your child – basketball, soccer or baseball, to name a few – martial arts specializes in developing the whole child through a combination of physical and mental discipline.

Several studies have shown that the whole child concept increases a child’s ability to focus; to translate success in the studio to success in the classroom and to aid in the redirection of challenging behavior.

The practice of martial arts, in many forms, dates back thousands of years. Unlike what is sometimes portrayed in movies or television shows, the true practice of martial arts does not encourage violence. In fact, the origins and bedrock values of martial arts are: respect, courtesy, honesty, perseverance and integrity.

Martial art classes build a strong base of basic skills through the use of forms and strengthening exercises. This exciting, yet disciplined approach to development actually increases the child’s ability to focus. This focus improves the child’s retention and accelerates their physical achievement – the child can actually see their improvement. Building on that initial success creates a lasting sense of accomplishment and increased self-confidence and allows the instructors to teach martial art values.

The workouts themselves are designed to be challenging. We will encourage your child to push their mental and physical limits. Your child will see that their body and mid will go further then they expected. They will later equate this in their life as the ability to overcome life’s obstacles and view challenges as opportunities.

These combined physical and character foundations honed through the martial arts help children excel in their academic school studies, sports and social endeavors. It ensures that they have the confidence in themselves and the character to make the right decisions when confronted with negative peer pressure.
